Save my morning Oatmeal!

IMG-9609

If you follow me from Instagram, you already know my obsession about oatmeal. I am one of those people that I need to eat right after I wake up. I did not train myself other way like drinking lemon water (sometimes they mix it with honey as well) and wait 30 minutes and then eat your breakfast. I know it is healthy and helps you start your day clean and energetic. But let’s be honest in here, I live in New York with crazy work hours. I do not have the motivation of creating that time for waiting another 30 minutes.

So my morning saver is generally oatmeal! And during my days off, I try to have a classical Mediterranean breakfast that has olives, tomato cucumber, egg etc. I think you can already picture it! I will make another post about that.

Why do I chose oatmeal for breakfast?

Well, let’s start with remembering that oats are the healthiest grains on earth. It is a great source of antioxidants, vitamins and fiber. It is very filling so you don’t get hungry right away. Also, you can make it very delicious with different toppings. You can be very creative in here. But use healthy toppings, since it is the whole point! 🙂

Here is my favorite Oatmeal recipe;

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup steel-cut oats
  • 2 cup water
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • A pinch of salt
  • A pinch of cinnamon – you can decide of the amount!

Toppings:

  • Honey
  • Banana
  • Blackberries
  • Chia Seeds
  • Hemp Seeds
  • Dried Cranberries
  • Almond
  • Sunflower seeds

How to cook steel-cut oats?

Combine the water, almond milk and oats together. Put a pinch of salt and a little bit cinnamon. For the cinnamon, you can always add afterwards too! It all depends on how you like it. I put just a pinch and that is enough flavor for me! Once it starts to boil, turn the heat to low and simmer for around 20 minutes. If you want your oatmeal not so creamy, you can take if from the heat at the 15th minute. Let them cool a bit and put a desired amount to a bowl.

A quick note in here; probably the amount of the steel cut oats you made is going to be too much for one morning! You can refrigerate it in a container and heat it in the morning.

Put all the toppings on top. Again, be creative in here that is the most fun!
